Characteristics of chimpanzees

They are covered in black hair, which may turn brown or ginger with age. Older chimpanzees can have gray or white patches on their chin and lower areas.
Social structure of chimpanzees
Chimpanzees in Kibale Forest National Park live in large groups called troops, consisting of males and females. These troops are led by a dominant male known as the alpha. The alpha male protects the group and keeps order, and he does not have to be the oldest to lead effectively.
Kibale Forest National Park has 13 chimpanzee families: 6 are wild, 5 are for research, and 2 are for trekking and habituation. Two families are used to humans, one fully habituated and one still habituating.
Gestation period of chimpanzees
Adult female chimpanzees usually become sexually active at 8-10 years. They typically give birth to one baby every five to six years, with twins being rare. Babies cling to their mothers’ fur and ride on their backs until they are 2 years old.
Chimpanzees breastfeed for 2-3 years and then learn to find food with their mothers’ help. Mothers protect their young until they can defend themselves. Young chimps stay in their mothers’ nests until they are 3 and can build their own.
Diet for Chimpanzees
Chimpanzees are omnivores, eating both plants and animals. They aren’t skilled hunters, so they consume monkeys, small mammals, insects, and termites, often using sticks to extract food.
Chimpanzees in Kibale National Park mainly eat figs, fruits, seeds, nuts, flowers, berries, and leaves. Some plants also serve as medicine for them. They spend much of the day searching for food throughout the forest.
