Why is Kidepo National Park famous.

Kidepo Valley National Park is famous for its untouched wilderness, spectacular landscapes, and incredible wildlife diversity. It is situated in the far northeastern corner of Uganda, bordering Kenya and South Sudan. Kidepo was first established as a game reserve in 1958 by the British colonial government and later became a national park in 1962 after Uganda gained its independence to protect the big mammals that existed at the time. The park derived its name from the famous Kidepo River, which flows through the park to the River Nile in South Sudan. It’s one of the largest national parks in the country, covering an area of approximately 1,443 square kilometers. It’s known for hosting the highest number of buffalo, up to 11,000 square kilometers.

The park is surrounded by two beautiful tribes, the Ik people and the Karamojong people, who used to stay within the park before it was gazetted. Kidepo Valley National Park has a rich biodiversity, hosting over 79 mammal species, including the big four mammals, 500 bird species, 200 butterfly species and 700 plant species. The rich biodiversity is supported by its various ecosystems such as woodlands, wetlands, riverine forests and savannah grasslands, which provide habitats to the park’s residents. Kidepo offers one of the most authentic and less crowded safari experiences in Africa to all travellers.
