Must- Visit Hotspots in Uganda: Uganda is one of the premier tourism destinations in East Africa commonly known as the Pearl of Africa due to its rich biodiversity and various ecosystems that support its rich biodiversity. It has over 10 national parks and 12 game reserves, which provide a habitant to various wildlife species and bird species. Uganda is famous for hosting the endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park, which attract thousands of visitors to come up close to these awesome creature and learn more about their behaviors. It also has the highest number of chimpanzees in Kibale National Park , the world’s most powerful waterfalls in Murchison Falls National Park, the Mabamba  wetland for the elusive shoebill stork among others. Entebbe

Situated on the shores of Lake Victoria, just a short drive from Uganda’s International Airport, Entebbe is the perfect gateway to the country. This charming lakeside town offers a relaxed atmosphere before or after the safari. It offers a smooth gateway through the country’s highlights at various centres such as Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, home to wildlife species in captivity, including big game mammals such as lion, giraffe, buffalo, and small animals, among others. It is also home to Entebbe Botanical Gardens, the only gardens that offer natural beauty and tranquillity with unique birds and a few primates.

Entebbe is also a haven for birdwatching mainly at Mabamba swamp and Entebbe Botanical gardens. Mabamba Swamp stands out as the top birdwatching destination in Africa, famous for spotting the iconic shoebill species, a sought-after bird that draws birdwatchers from different parts of the world to come and witness this elusive bird species.

However, Mabamba is also famous for other bird species, including the Lake Victoria Biome such as Blue Swallow, Little Egret, Papyrus Gonolek, African Marsh Harrier among others. Entebbe also offers breathtaking views of lakeside sunsets with packages that combine luxury accommodations, crafted experiences, and an unparalleled adventure.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

This is one of the Must- Visit Hotspots in Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the few destinations in Africa that host the world’s endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is home to nearly half to the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, located in Southwestern Uganda along the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The park has a total of over 459 mountain gorillas that are widely distributed across four sectors, including Ruhija, Buhoma, Rushaga, and Nkuringo. bwindi has over 23 gorilla families, where one is reserved for gorilla habituation in the Rushaga sector, which is located in the southern part of the park.

Kidepo Valley National Park

Tucked away in Uganda’s remote north-east, where the country borders Kenya and South Sudan, Kidepo Valley National Park is one of Africa’s last true wildernesses. Its land scapes are breathing, granite outcrops, palm dotted plains, sandy riverbeds, and vast sausage trees. Wildlife to see include elephants, lions, giraffes, several antelopes, and several birds such as the Clapperton’s Francolin or the Rosy-ringed Parakeet.

Murchison Falls National Park.

This is one of the Must- Visit Hotspots in Uganda, and home to the world’s most powerful waterfall, where the Nile forces itself through a narrow gorge before plunging into the river below. A boat cruise to the base of the falls offers unforgettable wildlife viewing, such as crocodiles, hippos, elephants, buffalo, and several birds, such as the African Eagle, Rock Pratincole, Cormorants, Malachite Kingfisher, African Darter, and Egyptian Goose, among others.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Stretching from the foot hills and shadow of the Rwenzori mountains to the shimmering waters of Lake Edward and Lake George, Queen Elizabeth is Uganda’s most diverse safari destination. This park is famous for its rich biodiversity, including wetlands, savannah, tropical rain forests, lakes, rivers, and water channels. Some of the wildlife species to see include the famous big four, such as elephants, buffalo, lions, and leopards, other species include Uganda kobs, warthogs, topis, waterbucks, and several bird species.

The park is also a remarkable destination for chimpanzees in Kyambura gorge where chimpanzee trekking experience is carried out. The park also offers exceptional activities such as classic game drives for visitors who prefer haveing a close encounter with wild game such as the big cats and others. The boat cruise on Kazinga Channel is a highlight of the day, because it offers a chance for visitors to enjoy spotting diverse wildlife on the boat, such as crocodiles, hippos, elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, and several bird species.

Kibale Forest National Park.

This is among the  Must- Visit Hotspots in Uganda, it hosts several bird and butterfly species, some of which are endemic to the Albertine Rift. Some of the endemic birds to see in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park include the Rwenzori Batis, Mountain Masked Apalis, Grauer’s Warbler, Regal Sunbird, Stranger Weaver, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Handsome Spurfowl, Rwenzori Apalis, and Grauer’s Broadbill, among others.

Commonly known as the primate capital of the world, Kibale Forest National Park is one of the top destinations in Africa to track wild chimpanzees. This forested 795 km park is best known for the number and variety of resident primates with an impressive list of over 13 primate’s species, including the country’s highest population of chimpanzees.

An estimate of over 1450 habituated chimpanzee groups can be tracked using experienced ranger guides at Kanyanchu River Camp. Other primates to see include the red-colobus monkey, red-tailed monkey, black and white colobus monkey, blue-monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, vervet monkey, L’hoest monkey, the nocturnal bush babies, and potto, meaning they can easily be seen during forest night walks, among others.

The park is also a popular destination for birdwatchers, with over 370 bird species that call this forest home. The forest is a unique destination with a rich ecosystem including grasslands and swamp species, 4 of which are endemic to Kibale Forest, and several species of the Central African Specials, among others.
