Participants must obtain a chimpanzee trekking permit, which is issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Caracal Explorers organises unforgettable photography safaris in Kibale Forest National Park. Trekking starts at the park’s headquarters with a briefing about the rules and regulations of the activity, and participants are divided into groups of a maximum of 8 participants.

Each group is assigned an experienced park ranger who leads the group in search of the awesome chimps and provides information about the park’s inhabitants encountered on the way. The duration of chimp trekking is between 2 and 5 hours, depending on the movements of the chimps, since they keep on moving from one place to another in search of food. Once located, participants will spend one hour with them, observing them as they play from tree to tree, feed, interact, groom and mothers taking care of the young ones. Photographers use this opportunity to capture various pictures from all angles.

The park experiences two seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season is the most suitable period for photographers to visit the park, which is from December to November and June to September. During this period, the park receives little to no rainfall, and it’s less muddy and slippery, which makes searching for the magnificent chimpanzees very easy and capturing clear shots. Travellers can also visit during the rainy season, which runs from March to May and October to November. During this period, the park receives enough rainfall and chimps don’t move deep into the forest in search of the endangered species.
