volcanoes National Park is one of the most visited national parks in Rwanda, situated in the northwestern region of the country. The park is famously known for hosting the endangered Mountain Gorillas. It is a premier high altitude bird watching destination in East Africa, attracting bird enthusiasts to come and watch the unique species that call this awesome park home. It hosts up to 237 bird species according to Avibase, and birds in Volcanoes National Park include Albertine Rift endemic species, migratory birds, forest birds, water birds, birds of prey, and the park’s residents. Bird watching in the park is best done in the morning hours and late afternoon when birds are most active. Volcanoes National Park has well maintained bird watching trails, which cater to all levels of birders, whether you are experienced or a beginner, the park offers excellent chances of spotting various bird species.
