Volcanoes National Park is a prominent safari destination in Rwanda, situated in the northwestern region. It is known for hosting high altitude bird species which are rare to find anywhere else in East Africa. Volcanoes is home to over 237 bird species, including 17 Albertine Rift endemics, forest birds, migratory birds and the park’s endemic species. The park’s rich avian life is supported by various ecosystems, such as the bamboo zone, montane forests, grasslands, and wetlands, which provide habitats for a wide range of bird species.
