Where can I find Gorilla Families in Bwindi National Park: Uganda emerges as one of Africa’s premier destinations known for gorilla safaris in both Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park. Bwindi alone is home to over 459 mountain gorillas with 23 mountain gorilla families that makes Bwindi a remarkable destination for primate safaris.
Located in southwest Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was gazetted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 with the goal of restoring and protecting the endangered and once-extinct mountain gorillas and their natural habitat. Buhoma, Nkuringo, Rushaga, and Ruhija are the four gorilla trekking sectors inside the park, which spans more than 332 square kilometres.
There are more mountain gorillas in Bwindi than any other gorilla park in Africa—more than 459 in total. The majority of these mountain gorillas have been trained to comply with tracking regulations. There are currently 23 gorilla trekking families in this park; 22 of them participate in regular gorilla trekking, while one gorilla family in Rushaga is set aside for gorilla habituation experiences. Rushaga sector
Where can I find Gorilla Families in Bwindi National Park: One of Bwindi’s special locations is the Rushaga district, which offers amazing gorilla trekking families. It has the greatest number of mountain gorilla families in the park and is located in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
There are more than eight mountain gorilla families in this gorilla trekking area, including the silverback Kakono-led Nshongi gorilla family, the silverback Mucunguzi gorilla family, the silverback Rumanzi-led Kahungye gorilla family, the silverback Rwigi-led Busingye gorilla family, the silverback Bweza-led Bweza gorilla family, the silverback Kutu-led Kutu, the Tindatine gorilla, and the Mishaya gorilla
Buhoma sector
Located in the northern region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the Buhoma sector is home to more than six mountain gorilla families, including the park’s oldest family. The silverback Ruhondeza leads the Mubare gorilla family; silverback Katwe leads the Katwe gorilla family; silverback Makara leads the Habinyanja gorilla family; silverback Mwirima leads the Rushengura gorilla family; silverback Muyambi leads the Muyambi gorilla family; and silverback Ruhondeza leads the Binyindo gorilla family.
Ruhija sector
Another gorilla trekking area in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the Ruhija sector, which is situated in the park’s eastern region. The Ruhija sector is home to four mountain gorilla families: the Kyaguliro family, led by silverback Rukara; the Mukiza family, led by silverback Mukiza; the Bitukura family, led by Ndahura; and the Oruzogo family, led by Tebirikwata.
Nkuringo sector
Located in the extreme southern region of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, the Nkuringo sector is said to have the fewest mountain gorilla families inside the park. Four gorilla families can be found in this area: the Christmas gorilla family, which is led by a silverback Christmas; the Nkuringo gorilla family, which is led by a silverback Rwamutwe; the Bushaho mountain gorilla family, which is open for habituation and is led by a silverback Bahati; and the Posho gorilla family.
