Gishwati- Mukura National Park is one of the four national parks in Rwanda, located in the northwestern region of the country. The park is celebrated for its rich avian life and for hosting chimpanzees, which attracts thousands of travellers to explore the park’s uniqueness. It has a mix of natural systems including grasslands, wetlands, tropical rainforests and montane forests, which provide habitats to various bird species. This blog will list birds found in Gishwati- Mukura National Park that ornithologists and bird lovers can encounter while in the park. The park is home to more than 230 bird species, such as water birds, migratory birds, Albertine endemics and forest birds. Bird watching is a guided activity led by an experienced park guide who identifies various birds encountered and provides information about their behaviours. Its best done in the morning or late afternoon hours when birds are most active.
