Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
You will meet and greet our company driver guide at Kigali International Airport, who will brief you about your safari. If time allows, you will have to go for a city tour in Kigali, which includes a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, where you will have a chance to learn more about the 1994 genocide era, local markets, and cultural centres. After that, you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park, where you will enjoy the breathtaking views of the countryside. Upon arrival, you will check into your hotel, relax and prepare for the long-awaited day. Dinner and overnight at your lodge. Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and cultural encounter.
Your day 2 of 3-Day Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park begins with a hearty breakfast and transfer to the park’s headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations of the activity. After the briefing, you will be divided into groups of 8 participants and assigned to a gorilla family and an experience park ranger who will lead the group. You will hike through the dense forest of the park in search of the endangered mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking takes between 2 and 7 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Once located, participants are given 1 hour to be with them and observe their behaviours. You will see how the play, feed, Sliverback taking care of the family, mothers grooming the young ones. This is one of the lifetime experiences for nature lovers. Later, you will return to the lodge to relax, and in the evening, you will visit the Ibwachu Cultural Village, which was the ex-poachers’ community for entertainment and cultural experience. Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Kigali International Airport.
You will wake up early, have breakfast and head to the park’s offices for a briefing about golden monkey tracking. After the meeting, you will meet your guide, who will lead you in search of these playful monkeys. These are endangered monkeys which are endemic to the Virunga region. Unlike gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking does not take long, and it’s easy to locate them. After tracking, you will return to the lodge, have lunch, and transfer to Kigali International Airport for departure. This marks the end of your 3-Day Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park.
