Why Is It Called Queen Elizabeth National Park? Queen Elizabeth national park first known as Kazinga channel and later its name changed to Queen Elizabeth national park in 1954 after the visit of the Queen of England named as Queen Elizabeth 11 of the Great Britain. This national park is located in Kasese district in the Eastern part of Uganda. Queen Elizabeth national park is considered to be the second largest national park after Murchison falls national park and it covers a total surface area of about 1980 square kilometers from the south west of Kampala and it also ranked as the most visited compared to all other national parks in the country because it is famously known as the place where tourists can be able to sight see the tree climbing lions in the country and it is also a home to other numerous wildlife species such as; African Elephants, hippos, buffalos. More so, it is surrounded by amazing volcanic features like; the stunning crater lakes such as Lake Edward which is marked as the lowest point of this national park standing at elevated area of about 910 meters., volcanic canes, deep craters and a beautiful vegetation among others.
Queen Elizabeth national park is situated at the back of the Rwenzori Mountains, which helps tourists to capture classic views from the crater lakes. More so, there are the Katwe explosion craters, which are known to be the highest point of Queen Elizabeth national park, which stands at an elevation of about 1350 meters.
