List of Bird Species in Volcanoes National Park.

List of Bird Species in Volcanoes National Park: Volcanoes National Park is one of the top bird watching destinations in Rwanda and is celebrated for hosting the endangered mountain gorillas. It is situated in the far northwestern corner of the country and is known as the oldest national park in Africa, established in 1925. Volcanoes National Park has a rich avian life, home to over 237 bird species, including high altitude species, 17 Albertine Rift endemics, forest birds, water birds, the park’s endemic species and migratory birds, which attracts many ornithologists and bird enthusiasts to come and explore the park’s unique species.  The park’s rich birdlife is supported by the presence of unique ecosystems such as montane rainforest, grasslands, wetlands, and bamboo forests, which provide habitats to various bird species.  Birding in the park is best done in the morning or evening hours when birds are most active.
