Horse riding in Lake Mburo National Park offers a unique and intimate way to experience the park’s rich biodiversity without the noise of an engine.  The park is situated in the western part of Uganda, and it’s one of the smallest national parks in Uganda, covering an area of approximately 370 square Kilometres. It’s famous for its accessibility, about 3 hours from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. Lake Mburo National Park is one of the most visited national Parks in Uganda, celebrated for its rich biodiversity. It hosts up to 69 mammal species, 340 bird species, including forest birds, water birds, the park’s residents and migratory bird species, 200 butterfly species, 100 reptiles and amphibians. The park’s mix of natural systems provides habitats for various animal and bird species, like acacia, wetlands and savannah grasslands. Lake Mburo National Park is the only national park in Uganda where travellers can explore the park’s rich biodiversity and beauty peacefully on a horse. The absence of engine noise allows animals to remain calm, enabling riders to approach species like zebras, elands, topis, waterbucks, and warthogs at a remarkable close range.

Horse Riding Experience in Lake Mburo National Park.

Horse riding excursions in Lake Mburo National Park are provided by Mihingo Lodge, which is a luxury lodge within the park. This is a guided activity led by experienced guides on horses who ensure travellers’ safety and provide more insights about the park’s inhabitants encountered. The activity begins with a briefing about the rules and regulations of the activity, and the max weight horses can carry is 85 kg. Please don’t be ashamed when they are weighing you. Horse riding caters to all levels of travellers, whether you are inexperienced or an experienced traveller, as they adjust your rides to your riding abilities. Beginners are advised to walk, while experienced riders can ride for between 4 and 5 hours, which takes them through Warukiki, which is found within the park. Fully adjustable helmets in all sizes and riding chaps are provided to travellers, and they should be aware that they ride using English-style saddles. Horse riding in Lake Mburo National Park gives travellers a unique opportunity to fully connect with nature as they listen to the sweet sounds of various species and birds. What is the best time to do Horse Riding in the Park

Horse riding in Lake Mburo National Park can be done year round, and the best time is determined by an individual’s interests. The park experiences two seasons, the dry season and the wet season, both of which provide exceptional experiences. The dry season is from December to February and from June to September. The season is characterised by little to no rainfall; the park is dry, and the vegetation cover is short, which makes it easier to view various animals and bird species. The wet season is from March to May and from October to November, which is characterised by enough rainfall. Travellers should be aware that this season favours budget travellers as travel companies and accommodations offer discounts in this period.
