This 6-day special birding in Murchison Falls National Park will take you to northwestern Uganda, to magical destinations like Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the top of the falls, and Albert Delta, where you will get introduced to several fascinating birdlife habitats such as savannah, lowland, and riverine forests. This destination is home to several birds, such as waterbirds, savannah birds, migratory birds, and forest birds, among others. You will explore distinctive birdlife sites such as the Royal Mile, the Albertine rift escarpment, and parts of the Budongo forest. Over 453 bird species are recorded in this park, and these include the sought-after shoebill, Senegal thick-knee, black-headed lapwing, martial eagle, dark chanting goshawk, Abyssinian ground hornbill, and many others.

  • Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport. Bird through Entebbe Areas

    Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, meet our company representative, who will welcome you and then transfer you to your booked hotel in Entebbe. Early arrivals can carry out birdwatching in botanical gardens, which offer excellent views of several bird species like the Greater Swamp Warbler, Grey-headed Gull, Orange Weaver, Red Bellied Paradise, Verreaux’s Eagle Owl, Black-Headed and Vieillot’s Black Weavers, Woodland Kingfisher, Hooded Vultures, Yellow-billed Kites, Pied Crows, Lizard Buzzard, African Paradise, Green-throated and Collared Sunbirds, among others. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 2: Birding to Murchison Falls National Park.

    Wake up early, have breakfast, and drive to Murchison Falls National Park while passing through scenic landscapes and green vegetation cover of the Luwero Triangle along Gulu Highway. You will carry out birding en route with stopovers, searching for species such as Great Blue Turaco, Blue Spotted Dove, White-Crested Turaco, African Black Crake, and several weavers. Have an en-route lunch and, after, embark on your birding safari with a few more stops for birdwatching before reaching Masindi. Other bird species to see include the Giant Kingfisher, Black-headed Weaver, Little Green Sunbird, Great Reed Warbler, and many more. Spend the night at Masindi Hotel after dinner and an overnight stay.

  • Day 3: Birding Budongo-Royal Mile and Transfer to Northern Murchison Falls National Park

    Have break fast and after drive to the Royal Mile in Budongo Forest, this will offer you high chances  of seeing mainly lurking birds and other species like the Nahan’s Francolin, Dusky Long-tailed Cukoo, White-spotted Flufftail, Black-capped Apalis, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, Ituri Batis, Red-headed Bluebill, Red Tailed Bristlebill, Olive-bellied Crombec, Little Green Sunbird, Great Blue and Black Billed Turaco, Red-tailed Ant-thrush, Puvel’s Illadopsis, Narina Trogon, Cassin’s Hawk Eagle, Toro Olive Greenbul, White-thighed Hornbill, Lemon Bellied Crombec, Tit Hylia, Forest Robin, Yellow Billed, Grey Throated, and Yellow Spotted Barbet, Hairy Breasted, Forest Flycatcher, Little Grey and Little Greeenbul, Yellow-browed Camaroptera, Graceful Cassin’s and Sabine’s Spinetail, Blue-throated Roller, and many others.  Have dinner and overnight at your reserved lodge.

  • Day 4: Morning game drive—Birding the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park

    After breakfast, you will drive to the northern sector of the park on a morning game drive to see big game mammals such as lions, buffaloes, leopards, elephants, and leopards. Other wildlife species to see include the waterbucks, Rothschild’s giraffes, elephants, warthogs, and several bird species such as the red-throated and northern Carmine Bee-eater, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, African Skimmer, African Darter, Goliath Heron, Dark Chanting Goshawk, Giant Kingfisher, Saddle-billed Stork, and Black-headed Lapwing. We will also take an afternoon boat cruise on the Nile Delta while birding. Northern Crombec, Namaqua, Heuglin’s Francolins, Swallow-tailed, Little Bee-eaters, Red-necked Falcon, Sooty Flycatcher, Rock Pratincole, and Yellow-billed and African Open-billed Stork. We opt to have an optional game drive in search of nocturnal birds and other missed-out big game mammals such as lions, giraffes, elephants, leopards, and several antelopes. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 5: Morning game drive—Birding on the Albert Delta

    Wake up early, have breakfast, and head for a morning game drive where you will have a chance to see several wildlife species, including mammals such as lions, leopards, buffaloes, spotted hyenas, antelopes, and several bird species. Retire around noon, head back to your lodge for lunch, and after lunch, embark on the boat ride along the Albert Nile Delta for specialties like the elusive Shoebill and several water birds. This Nile delta stretch will take you to several birding spots in search of several water birds, such as the top highlight of the day, the sought-after Shoebill Stork, and other bird species such as the African Fish Eagle, African Jacana, Senegal Thick-knee, African Darter, Malachite Kingfisher, Rock Pratincole, and many others. The delta will also give you a chance to spot several land and aquatic mammals such as hippos, elephants, waterbucks, and reptiles like Nile crocodiles, monitor lizards, and many others. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.

  • Day 6: Visit the top of the Falls, Ziwa Rhino Tracking, and return to Entebbe International Airport.

    Have breakfast and visit the top of the falls as we depart Murchison Falls National Park to explore the captivating and exciting scenery of the cascading waterfalls that are said to be the strongest in the world, as strong falls drop through a narrow 7-meter gorge down the pool, forming a roaring sound. Look out for birds like the Malachite kingfisher, Fish Eagle, Rock Pratincole, and many others. After this experience, proceed with your journey as you go birdwatching along the way to look for species like the Palm-nut Vulture, White-crested Turaco, and Martial Eagle. After that, head to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to see the endangered White Rhinos, an unforgettable experience, before being dropped off in Kampala or Entebbe to wrap up your 6 days special birding in Murchison Falls National Park.
