Gishwati- Mukura National Park is one of the most sought-after birdwatching destinations in Rwanda, celebrated for hosting unique bird species. The park is situated in the northwestern region of the country within the Albertine Rift region. Its formed of two sperate forests the Gishwati forest and Mukura forest all of which host unique bird species. It is home to more than 163 bird species in Mukura forest and 230 bird species in Gishwati forest. These bird species include forest birds, Albertine Rift endemics, water birds, migratory birds and the park’s residents, which are rare to find anywhere else.
