What is likely to happen while trekking in Uganda
A normal trekking day starts at a designated meeting spot, such as the headquarters of Buhoma Park, where guests arrive in the morning for a briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority about gorillas. Following that, the visitors are split up into groups of around 8 people and placed among various gorilla groups. The reason for the group size is that small groups are easier to handle and don’t frighten the gorillas. With 17 members, the Habinyanja family of gorillas is the biggest habituated gorilla family in Bwindi National Park.

The Gorilla group to which you have been allocated determines where you start. Most of the time, visitors are unaware of where their trip will begin until the day of the trek. Some groups begin their journey from the headquarters of the specific sectors (Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija, or Nkuiringo), while others must drive into the jungle. After arriving at their starting locations, visitors are expected to follow their individual ranger escorts as they navigate the dense forest. For security, armed guards are also available.
