This is mainly because dry months have occasional rain, while December to February receive little to no rain. These periods are ideal for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking experiences due to dry trails, which ease accessibility.

These dry seasons receive an average temperature range between 27°C/81°F in the afternoon and 16°C/61°F in the morning. It gets colder above 1,300m/4,265ft, including Uganda’s gorilla parks of Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks.

During the dry seasons, clear skies support wildlife visibility for both nature lovers and photographers for perfect shots. Animals tend to gather around water points to quench their thirst, as predators wait for their prey, hence the best time for spotting them.

Roads connecting to the park are in good condition for easy accessibility. June is ideal for visiting Uganda, so you are advised to book gorilla trekking permits at least 6 months in advance due to high demand.

Wet Seasons

Visitors can also visit Uganda during the wet season which begins from March, April to May and from September, October to November, with April being the wettest month. During the wet season, temperatures during the day, especially in the morning, range from 28°C to 16°C. However, due to the higher altitude in southwestern Uganda, it tends to be colder, especially in gorilla destinations such as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla Park, among others.

This rainy season is characterised by a thick vegetation cover and the perfect breeding season when many wild animals give birth, since there is an abundant food supply. The season is also a perfect timing for photographers due to sensational and breathtaking views.

Additionally, it allows visitors especially birdwatchers to see many rare migratory birds, both breeding and non-breeding, like Palearctic and infra-African migrants. More still, traveling in the off-peak season can lead to cost saving, as gorilla and chimpanzee permits are often discounted strictly in months of April, May and November.
