This 14-Day Uganda Luxury Birding Adventure provides an upscale birdwatching experience in top locations like Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kibale Forest National Park, Mabamba Wetland and Lake Mburo National Park. The trip starts and ends in Kampala and includes wildlife tours and optional activities such as gorilla tracking. Below is the itinerary.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

Upon arriving at Entebbe Airport, meet our company representative or your driver guide and transfer to your booked hotel and refresh. If time permits, your safari guide will take you for birdwatching at Entebbe Botanical Gardens, where you will enjoy the natural beauty, and spotting several bird species such as the Great Blue Turaco, Black-headed Weaver, Herons, Pelikans, Kingfishers, Hornbills, and several terns. Have dinner and overnight at Protea Entebbe Hotel.

Day 2: Birding in Mabamba swamp – Lake Mburo national park

Your day 2 of 14-Day Uganda Luxury Birding Adventure will begin by waking up early and have breakfast, and after your safari driver will transfer you to one of the leading shoebill destinations in the country. Upon arrival, you will connect to Mabamba Wetland by canoe to see the elusive shoebill and other water birds such as the Yellow-billed Stork, African Jacana, African Darter, Malachite Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, Grey Crowned Crane, African Spoonbill, Papyrus Gonolek, among others. After, you will drive southwards with a stopover at the Equator for Lunch, before proceeding to Lake Mburo National Park to see the evening savannah species. Enjoy dinner and overnight at Mihingo Lodge (Luxury), Rwakobo Rock (Mid-range), Eagles Nest (Budget).

Day 3: Birdwatching and walking safari

After breakfast, you will canoe on Lake Mburo to see water birds like the African Finfoot, African Jacana, African Fish Eagle, Yellow-billed Stork, and Herons, among others. After lunch, bird watching will continue in the park for savannah species, along with sightings of zebras, elands, impalas, buffaloes, and giraffes, before returning to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, enjoy morning bird watching while driving to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to mountain gorillas. Lunch is served en route. After checking in at the lodge, do evening bird watching on the community trail. Dinner and overnight at Bakiga Safari Lodge and conclude your day 4 of 14-Day Uganda Luxury Birding Adventure

Day 5: Birdwatching in Mubwindi swamp

After breakfast, go to Mubwindi Swamp to see special Albertine endemic species such as the Regal sunbird, Rwenzori Batis, Strange Weaver, Dusky Crimsonwing, Handsome Spurfowl, Mountain Masked Apalis, Shelley’s Crimsonwing, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Stripe-breasted Tit, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Rwenzori Apalis, among others. Return to the lodge for meals and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking experience

Wake up early and prepare for the day, after breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing and go gorilla trekking experience, where you will head into the jungle in the company of the ranger guides with other members for 45 minutes-7 hours searching for mountain gorillas. Afterwards, during evening hours, transfer to Buhoma for birding along the “NECK” and stay overnight at Buhoma Lodge.

Day 7: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Your day 7 of 14-Day Uganda Luxury Birding Adventure will start with hearty breakfast and  travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha, where you may see tree-climbing lions and other wildlife. Enjoy lunch on the way, then have an evening game drive and bird watching before returning to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Kyambura Gorge Lodge.

Day 8: Birdwatching and boat cruise

After breakfast, join a morning birdwatching activity in the park. Return for lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel to see water birds and animals like crocodiles, hippos, buffalo, and elephants. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 9: Transfer to Kibale National Park – Chimpanzee tracking

On the 9th day of your 14-Day Uganda Luxury Birding Adventure, wake up early, have breakfast, and leave for Kibale Forest National Park, stopping at Crater Lake to see some bird species. Arrive by mid-morning, enjoy lunch, then go for chimpanzee tracking for about 3-5 hours, with one hour for viewing. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Kyaninga Lodge.

Day 10: Birding in the park and Bigodi swamp visit

In the morning, after breakfast, go to the park to find the Green-breasted Pitta and other forest birds. In the afternoon, visit the Bigodi wetland swamp for birding. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 11: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Wake up early and transfer to Murchison Falls National Park. It’s a long journey with activities, so plan for more time. Birdwatch at Sebitoli and the Escarpment. Dinner and overnight at Nile Safari Lodge and conclude your 14-Day Uganda Luxury Birding Adventure

Day 12: Birding in the delta area and Budongo forest

On the 12th day of your 14-Day Uganda Luxury Birding Adventure, after breakfast, take a boat trip in the delta for birding, where shoebill storks are common. Return for lunch, then go birding at the Royal Mile in Budongo Forest. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 13: Birding and boat cruise

Join for early morning bird watching in the park, followed by an afternoon boat cruise at Nyamusika cliff to see more birds and the base of the falls. Optionally, hike to the top of the falls. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 14: Return to Kampala/Entebbe

After breakfast, you can hike to the falls and see birds. After leaving the park, you’ll return to Kampala/Entebbe and, depending on your flight schedule, you’ll be dropped at your hotel in Kampala/Entebbe or at Entebbe airport for your flight home, marking the end of the trip. This marks the end of your 14-Day Uganda Luxury Birding Adventure with Caracal Explorers.
